Getting off to a running start

It's been one year since we first entered the political arena. In year one we learned, grew, made some great friends, and came unbelievably close to doing what few thought was possible. Seventeen months from the 2010 election we hit the ground running, orange shirts and all.... And to answer the question I heard a lot today....We're back!

What a great way to kick off another summer! One year after tentatively getting involved in the political field, we launched 2009 with energy, enthusiasm and confidence!

We woke up early on our nation’s birthday and headed to Greendale to run in a 5k in support of those battling Myositis. We thought what a better way to start a run at the 2010 election than with a real run for a worthy cause. The weather was perfect for a run and the people really turned out.  Going to events like this one last year was fun. However, after spending last summer meeting everyone, this year has a whole new feel. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by friendly faces… seeing old friends again and quickly making new ones. While it was good to get to talk to people, it was time to get to business and run the race at 9:00. The pace was quick and it didn’t seem long until we were crossing the finish line. After a lot of sweat, some time to catch our breath and a couple bottles of water, it was time to head to Patriot for their annual 4th of July Parade and Picnic!

While the location was different, the reception was the same. As soon as we pulled into the staging area we ran into familiar faces who were as helpful and welcoming as always. The entries in the parade were great, and the spectators couldn’t have been more receptive. Patriot is wonderful town with amazing people, and man can they cook! After the parade we joined in on the picnic, and to be completely honest, my brownies paled in comparison to the dishes the town’s folk brought out! From the chicken to the fruit to the various salads, baked beans, corn, potatoes and deserts everything was delicious! The parade and picnic in Patriot is a tradition that I’ll look forward to every year. We took some great pictures at both events that you can check out through this page by clicking on the flickr link at the bottom right of the web page.

To end the day we’re headed to Metamora to see the third largest fireworks display in the State of Indiana. It should be the perfect ending to a fun-filled 4th of July!

I’m excited to get back out to all of the events that Southeastern Indiana has to offer. We’re looking forward to seeing you all again soon!
