St. Lawrence; an Outstanding Perspective

What a great weekend my volunteers and I had at the St. Lawrence Festival in Lawrenceburg! After a long day of going door to door it was a lot of fun getting out meeting some of the people of Lawrenceburg in a different setting. Some of the people who have been working so hard on this campaign also got to take part in a little recreation. The people of Lawrenceburg were very welcoming, and I want to thank them for speaking to me about issues that are important to them as well as letting me get to know them on a personal level.

I wanted to do a little research about St. Lawrence Church before I wrote this post, and I’m very glad I did. According to the church website St. Lawrence was the patron Saint of the poor. He gave many of the treasures of the church to the poor, and when he was asked to account for these treasures, and present them to Roman officials he gathered the masses who had received the riches and said, “These are the treasures of the Church”. What an outstanding perspective! To know that the real treasures in life are the people around us! It relates to the way I want our government to act. Government should be constantly mindful that the real treasures of the state are not the extravagant government buildings, the millions raised from taxes, or government programs, but the people. The real people! The small town people. The people entrusted these leaders with their votes, and those leaders have sworn to represent and promote them before anything else.

I just want to say thank you again to the people of Lawrenceburg for your warm welcome, and fun atmosphere, and thank you St. Lawrence for setting a great example and reminding us all of how important it is for us all to keep everything in the right perspective.
